“Reenactment of Trio A” with Dimitrina Sevova
This Practical Fridays session was run by a trio: Dimitrina Sevova, who is a complete amateur in the field of dance, in collaboration with her twin sons, Alex and Andreas Kessi, who are at the beginning of their professional life as ballet dancers.
The workshop focused on the reenactment of Yvonne Rainer’s performance “Trio A (The Mind Is a Muscle, Part 1)” from 1966. “Trio A” is a short dance that consists of one long phrase with repetitions of simple movements that can be broken or bent, but refuse to create a narrative or persona within the dance. We rehearsed: No manifesto! No to spectacle! No to virtuosity!
We moved collectively, using our bodies to reenact the “Trio A” dance movements projected on a wall at Counter Space. The idea was to create an active space of collective dance movement, experience the action of dislocation and an alternative form of ritual.
